Ibogaine as an Alternative
For PTSD Treatmen

For those who have not found success with traditional PTSD treatments or who prefer a natural approach, ibogaine may be a promising alternative. Ibogaine is a naturally occurring psychoactive substance found in the root bark of the iboga plant, which has been used for centuries in traditional healing ceremonies in West Africa. It has been shown to have potential therapeutic effects on addiction, depression, and anxiety, making it a potentially effective treatment option for those struggling with PTSD. One of the benefits of ibogaine treatment for PTSD is that it is a relatively short-term therapy, with many patients experiencing significant improvements after just one or two treatments.

This can be particularly appealing for those who, for whatever reason, will have difficulty committing to long-term traditional therapy. Moreover, ibogaine treatment does not come with the same risks of over-reliance or addiction that are often associated with traditional medications. Ibogaine has been found to work by resetting the brain’s neurotransmitter system, helping to reduce anxiety and depression symptoms, and making it less likely that patients will become dependent on the substance. It’s important to note that ibogaine treatment should only be administered under the supervision of a trained medical professional in a safe and controlled environment.

What to expect during an Ibogaine treatment for PTSD

Ibogaine treatment can influence the mood in a way that helps to release negative thoughts and the trauma associated with PTSD.

Clients that receive ibogaine therapy report that they no longer suffer from the strong emotions that were responsible for their trauma prior to the treatment. Many even find that they feel better after treatment than they did PRIOR to PTSD.

Ibogaine targets the brain and reacts with the MU receptors.

It balances out the chemicals responsible for emotions such as happiness, causing a sense of calmness and a later understanding of WHY the brain was so traumatized by the negative experience.

The Potential Benefits of Ibogaine Treatment For PTSD

One of the main benefits of Ibogaine treatment for PTSD is the potential for long-lasting relief.

Unlike traditional treatments, which often require ongoing therapy and medication management, Ibogaine can provide a more permanent solution by addressing the underlying emotional trauma that contributes to PTSD symptoms.

Another benefit of Ibogaine treatment is the potential for a quicker and more efficient recovery.

In some cases, people have reported significant improvements in their PTSD symptoms after just one session of Ibogaine treatment.

It’s also worth noting that Ibogaine treatment is a natural and non-addictive alternative to traditional PTSD treatments, such as prescription medications, which can often lead to dependence and negative side effects.

After Ibogaine Treatment for PTSD

While ibogaine does help to heal the mind, there is still work to be done. The client is encouraged to actively participate in a support group following his or her ibogaine treatment to help continue the healing process. PTSD is the result of deep-rooted traumatic life experiences—and while an alkaloid or substance such as ibogaine can equate to years of therapy for some, additional support is usually helpful.

There are many ways a person can get additional support following ibogaine treatment. We recommend you find a PTSD support group, a grief support group, or a similar group of fellowship with others that have witnessed or experienced similar situations. You could also continue counseling or therapy if you are interested in doing so—it certainly won’t harm the recovery process.

The Importance of Understanding PTSD

For many, those who do not understand the full complexity of post-traumatic stress disorder, the condition can be characterized by a variety of symptoms that can be relatively easy to distinguish. When one has a traumatic event happen in their life, they will sometimes experience anxiety, obsessive-compulsive behavior, sleep disturbances, flashbacks, and even panic attacks. Even though the individual may consciously block out this event, the symptoms will still manifest within the individual’s life and may create a day-to-day dysfunction.

What counts as a “traumatic psychological event” varies by individual. That being said, there are situations in which post-traumatic stress disorder will result in great frequency. These situations include childhood abuse, rape, witnessing torture, fighting in a war, or seeing accidents resulting in the death of a loved one. PTSD occurs when the brain cannot accept the event and thus blocks it out.

This in turn may cause make the individual to experience the symptoms mentioned – even if the event is no longer consciously remembered, the brain still needs to work through the event. In addition to having the symptoms of PTSD, many individuals will also have other side effects. Those who experience childhood abuse, rape, or assault, may have trouble forming relationships due to their lack of trust. This often leads to individuals with PTSD relying on alcohol and/or other drugs to help them cope, which quickly results in chemical dependency.
